Some Art Journal Fun

Image
Art Journal Fun Took a little challenge on one of my facebook groups to use a painting by Donna Downey for inspiration.  It involved creating a background and then covering most of it up with black.   THAT was the hardest part...covering up all the pretty colors and paint layers on the back ground. Here is a picture of the completed page. ...and then some of the process. (WARNING - PICTURE LADEN POST!) I started by applying layers of acrylic with an old credit card. Then I started adding more colors using stencils. ...then a bit of stamping. Then I dug out some rub-ons and scattered them on the page. It needed some more pop, so I used the tip of my finger and added some bright red circles. Some doodling and dots and little bees.. (Although the bees don't really show once it's finished.) Decided on circle and flower placement... Then I started adding black paint.  I didn't didn't lik...

More Twinkling H2O play...

Image
Enjoyed playing in my paints yesterday.   Since I had all my Twinks out I thought I'd go ahead and tackle a Doodle Girl challenge posted in one of my facebook groups this past week. Here she is in all her glory! Now I need to find a quote. I guess a quote is not really necessary, but if I find one I like, I will add it later.

Twinkling H2Os

Image
I needed to make a birthday card for a co-worker and I knew I wanted to make something with watercolor flowers, so I dug out Twinkling H2Os to play.   With this many H2Os to choose from I didn't know where to start...  ...so I pulled out a butterfly embellishment and used it to pick the color scheme. I've had these for many years as you can tell by the original labels. Yummy, yummy colors!!! I put them in a tray and spritzed them several times with water to soften them up. Working on a heavy watercolor paper, I started laying out the line work and flowers. I started out with a pale gold background, but it was just a bit too pale for my taste so I mixed some colors and added some shading. Once I had all the flowers and vines in place, I started doodling.   Some swirls and dots to fill in the spaces. You can't really see them in the picture, but I also have swirls in white scattered throughout.  ...and the f...

What's on Your Workdesk Wednesday Watercolor Play Had some time to play this week, so I dug out my inks and took on  Sandee's Challenge at Frosted Designs    to create a painting using inks and pipettes by Ranger . No brushes involved! Free and Loose!  What a fun little challenge! ...and on Monday night I decided to paint along with Tracy Weinzapfel and Mixed Media Monday . My painting didn't follow along in her direction, but I had fun flinging watercolor splatters and  listening to and reading the chatter going on.  Love Monday nights! The stamp is called Cityscape and is by France Papillion for Stampotique . I won this from France a while back and I love the little funky buildings! They have so much personality!

Throwback Thursday on Friday

Image
I posted my Throwback Thursday picture to my facebook, but forgot to come back here and post it to my blog.   I got caught up in a couple of hours of tripping down Memory Lane, going through several hard drives of photos.  Such fun memories...recent and not so recent. Anyway here is this weeks spotlight. 2010 Stacey at 15....LOVE this picture!

My Poor Neglected Blog!

I know, I know!  I promised MONTHS ago that I would be back to blogging soon...but we've had a lovely summer of sunshine here in Florida and I have enjoying it! I've been trying to keep up with my Throwback Thursday and at least getting a picture up. I plan on going back to edit the posts to add a little history and story to each one as I love the old stories and memories. My art desk has been sitting sadly neglected also...but Winter is moving in and with it longer, darker nights. I'll be inside and back at my desk soon.  No more late evenings enjoying the wonderful Florida sunshine. Well, it's off to work!  Have a great day everyone!
